What Lake Norman does to a window
Lake Norman has more than 500 miles of shoreline, and the best of it is on the peninsulas in Cornelius and Mooresville. The homes on Jetton Road, in The Peninsula and out Brawley School Road to The Point sit right on the coves, and the lake puts a mist on the glass most mornings in spring and fall when the water is warmer than the air. From Memorial Day to Labor Day the boat and wake-board traffic churns the coves, and the spray dries on the lakeside windows as a faint film that shows up the second the afternoon sun hits it. Dock lights, bugs and spiders add their own layer to the lower glass by midsummer.
Back from the water the problem is the same as the rest of the region. The pines and oaks left standing in Antiquity, River Run and the older streets of Davidson let go in April and coat everything in yellow-green pollen, and the shaded north glass under the trees grows a green film through the humid months. Construction has not slowed on the lake in twenty years, and the red clay dust from graded lots along Brawley School Road and Highway 150 settles on glass for a mile around. Irrigation is almost universal, and the overspray from sprinklers and the fairways at The Peninsula Club, River Run and The Point leaves mineral spots along the lower panes.
Lakefront homes do best on an every two months schedule from May through October, with quarterly the rest of the year and the inside glass done once a year. Homes a few streets back in Davidson, Antiquity and the Birkdale side of Huntersville are fine on a quarterly plan with an extra visit after the pollen. Most lake houses have two or three stories of glass facing the water, and we clean it with water-fed poles from the ground or the dock. Can you clean the lakeside glass from the dock?
Yes. Most lake houses have a wall of glass facing the water over a walkout basement or a sloped yard, and we clean it with water-fed poles from the ground or from the dock and ladders only where the footing is safe.
